A concrete step for Twinship

The Non-Profit Association Damanhur Education APS serves as the container for the realization of the twinning of an eco-village in the South, Guedè Chantier, Senegal, and an eco-village in the North, Damanhur, Italy. The vision brings concrete proposals for exchange between different realities, which have much to share with one another. The first step consisted of a workshop for the preservation of vegetables and tomatoes in Guede Chantier.

EDE course

The Ecovillage Design Education (EDE) was born out of the experiences of long existing communities and cutting-edge educators in order to teach how to create a new way of living which brings together the four key dimensions of an ecovillage: social, cultural/worldview, environmental and economic.

In November 2015 two members of Damanhur Education APS participated in the Green Phoenix Conference in Switzerland. During the meeting a member from a Greek ecovillage shared about the conditions of the refugees landing in Greece and the “RefuGEN” mission was born.

Participation in side events of UN conferences

Damanhur Education APS had the opportunity to present about the twinship with Guede Chantier in Senegal during side events of two important conferences of the United Nations: the Human Rights Council in Geneva on September 27, 2016, and the Cop 22 in Marrakech on November 16, 2016, which was possible thanks to Damanhur’s participation in the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN). GEN has a consultative status with one of the  organs  of the United Nations called the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
